I started off by finishing the throttle linkage.  Although, if I was fair I'd acknowledge that I still have some adjustments to make.

Not sure why I went to check out the water pump next, but,......

The outlet for the heater seems in a off position, some research is needed to see if this makes any difference.

I then fitted the shock absorbers on the back as I think I should start at the back and work forward.

So having decided that I then start idly fitting odds and sods that were about to fit.

One thing that has been hanging over me is the fuel line connection to the tank.  The pipe coming out of the tank is a very different size to the other fuel pipes I have so I have needed to do something about it.  I bit the bullet, cut the old connector off and then prepped it for soldering.

It doesn't look like there is loads of solder but I think it took well so I am going for it.

Above, with a standard gas pipe U bend and below, in situ in the car.  I need to drill a hole in the rear panel now then job done.

Last Sunday I spent a leisurely day installing the throttle linkage and carbs.  It was enjoyable but slow.  First up I couldn't work out what to do with the little tab that sits on the back of the pedal so I put a post on the AH Experience site and will forget about it until someone advises me.  I hope I don't need to take it all out again though as it took ages to get it positioned correctly.

Once in I turned my attention to the carbs.  I soon discovered that one of the carb bowls caught on one of the studs on the exhaust for the shield.  I have seen a photo of somebody else's car that had this bolted on so I removed a stud and fitted a bolt.

Trial fitting the carbs felt exciting as it looked like a big step forward.

Then I started fitting the throttle linkage, this was a little fiddly and I don't think I have the set up right yet.

The final shaft to the carbs is not working out.  I think I have the connection wrong at the carb end but ran out steam and decided to leave it until next week.

I only grabbed a few hours in the garage this weekend but I did something that I was hoping would put a nagging doubt to rest, fitted the prop shaft.

I started by bolting in the rear.

Then when I to the front I saw that it was an inch short.  This I didn't expect, in fact I had been secretly concerned that it would be too long.  Or rather I had been concerned that the engine is too far back as the gearbox mounting rubbers are not lined up with the holes in the chassis and I wondered if there was an error in the dimensions of the chassis.  Rather dramatic, I know.

So I took the prop out and measured it so that I could check it for accuracy.  I looked into the manual to see if they had a measurement stated only to see a diagram that made me realise that the shaft was extendable.

As soon as I saw that I picked up the shaft and gave it a tug and hey presto, it extended.  What a donut I am.

I then refitted it and guess what, it fits.  Complete worry wart.

The gearbox is still troubling me but I figure that it just needs some manipulation, next week I think.

Well it is in, thanks for  the help from Vas and my wife.  It was a thoroughly enjoyable job that went very well.

Procrastinating over for a while and back on to the engine.  I fit the flywheel and my lovely wife gives me a helping hand whilst I tighten it.

Clutch on with a visual inspection for the plate being lined up as I don't have the proper tool and think that I can do it with a screw driver.

Well I struggled to get the damn thing together and spent some time wishing that I had the correct tool.

In the end I loosen off the clutch and then fit the gearbox.  Once together I remove it rapidly and then tighten the clutch pressure plate.  Then I refit the gearbox and it goes in first time, bingo.

Next job, car off the trolley so that I can fit the engine.  John suggested that I fit the engine and the gearbox separately and I am thinking that he may have a point as I don't think that the combined unit will be easy to get in with my cheap and cheerful engine hoist.  This is the last photo of the car on the trolley with the wheels on ready for the off.

I used the engine hoist at the front and a jack at the back but it wasn't tall enough so I had to use a pallet as well, it felt a little precarious to say the least.  The hoist valve to release the pressure and therefore height is crude item and I found that it dropped great chunks of distance at a time which was scary at first.

It came down to earth though and I felt really pleased to see it on its wheels, it looks like a car.

Tomorrow I will attempt to put the engine in.
